Call of Duty: WWII Officially Announced

Activision has officially announced the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: WWII. The Call of Duty series began in 2003 and has been an annual release ever since Call of Duty 2 in 2005. While the first three titles were strongly rooted in WWII (four if you count Call of Duty 2: Big Red One) however that setting was left behind in favor of more futuristic campaigns after Call of Duty: World at War in 2008. Fans have been increasingly vocal about their desire for Activision to bring the series back to its roots culminating in a very polarizing reception for last year’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. It seems Activision has been listening and this November Sledgehammer Games (the team responsible for 2014’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare) will bring us Call of Duty: WWII. Battlefield 1 saw a lot of success last year when they turned back the clock to WWI and the biennial series will focus heavily on DLC in lieu of another game this year, which is a best case scenario for Call of Duty to win back some disenfranchised gamers. Terrible name aside, I am cautiously optimistic for Call of Duty: WWII and I’m excited to see Sledgehammer back at the helm.

A full gameplay reveal will occur as part of a livestream on April 26th at 10 AM Pacific. What are your thoughts on this announcement? Sound off in the comments below!
