Cult Classics AZ, Phoenix’s première repertory screening series (http://cultclassicsaz.com), presents a special ONE NIGHT ONLY screening of Paul Verhoeven’s cult classic action thriller/science fiction satire ROBOCOP on August 16th to celebrate their 3rd year anniversary of monthly revival screenings in the Valley. The event will take place at Pollack Tempe Cinemas and is sponsored by Zia Records.
In a dystopic, future crime-ridden Detroit controlled by a powerful corporation, a terminally wounded cop (Peter Weller) returns to the force as a company-owned cyborg with submerged memories of his killer (Kurtwood Smith in his most well known role as Clarrence Boddicker).
Cult Classics founder Victor Moreno is excited to share one of his favorite films with the 300+ monthly attendees at the event which has consistently sold out all of their events throughout the year. “When we started running events in the Valley in front of 40-60 patrons twice a night in Mesa, we were amazed that we tapped into this communal need here in Phoenix to re-experience their favorite films on the big screen where they belong and the need for people to introduce them to people who maybe werent alive when these films came out or wanted to experience them on the big screen with an audience that loves them genuinely. I think RoboCop is one of those movies that a bad remake can’t tarnish and is begging for a chance to be experienced again in front of a sold out house!”
Cult Classics AZ will also be raffling off special prizes for this event including 2 RoboCop figurines courtesy of Funko Pop and a copy of the original film on Blu Ray thanks to Zia Records, as well as gift cards, t-shirts, prints and much more. There will also be a commemorative print and t-shirt for this event to celebrate the screening and the anniversary of our screening events!
