After a successful 25-year operation, Netflix made the decision to discontinue DVD.com later this year due to the challenges of maintaining the service for their members amidst the business’s decline.
“After an incredible 25-year run, we’ve decided to wind down DVD.com,” according to the company’s website.
Netflix DVD aims to end on a positive note and will be dispatching its last discs on September 29, 2023, and must be returned by October 27. The final invoice will be issued in August, but customers who have both DVD and streaming accounts will not experience any disruptions in their service.
“After an incredible 25-year run, we’ve made the difficult decision to wind down at the end of September. Our goal has always been to provide the best service for our members, but as the DVD business continues to shrink, that’s going to become increasingly difficult. Making 2023 our final season allows us to maintain our quality of service through the last day and go out on a high note,” the company said.
The red envelopes that became synonymous with the service revolutionized home entertainment, leading to the emergence of streaming.
