On Sunday night, the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles hosted the 95th Academy Awards. The sci-fi film “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, won several top categories, including best picture and directing. Michelle Yeoh, who starred in the same film, won the best actress award, making history as the first Asian actress to receive this honor. Brendan Fraser, who starred in “The Whale,” won the other lead acting award, also for the first time. A24, the studio which produced both films, emerged as a major winner of the night.
Other winners included “Pinocchio” by Guillermo del Toro for the best-animated feature, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis for their supporting roles in “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” “Navalny” for the best documentary feature, Ruth E. Carter for costume designing in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Sarah Polley for the best-adapted screenplay for “Women Talking,” and “All Quiet on the Western Front” won several awards including best international feature, production design, and cinematography in the first half of the show. Additionally, Jamie Lee Curtis and Ke Huy Quan won for the first time in their supporting roles in the award ceremony. Ruth E. Carter, on the other hand, became the first Black woman to win two Oscars.
