Albuquerque Comic Con is holding their 3rd annual convention this year, January 12th-13th. It’s being held at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, that will be sure to provide fun all night long, even outside the con. This year, the staff has gotten together a great array of guests that will be visiting New Mexico. International cosplay star Yaya Han will be attending, along with AZ local cosplayers Katybear, Cara Nicole, and Leah Rose.
Amanda Conner, artist and writer of Powergirl, JSA, and several other comics will be showing off her illustrating magic. Along with that, Star Trek fans will be pleased to see Denise Crosby, who played Commander Sela on Star Trek The Next Generation. Other notable guests include Brian Pulido creator of Lady Death, Jim Valentino co-creator of Image Comics, Verne Troyer (Mini-Me), John Shea, and Jason David Frank of Power Rangers fame.
But, the biggest guest who will be there is a little girl named Lilly. A four-year old who was diagnosed with leukemia. The organizers of Albuquerque Comic Con have donated a table and items to auction off to help Lilly and her family go on a trip to Cliffs Amusement Park. Make sure to stop by her table, donate, say hi, and look at the items up for auction. She is a very brave and strong girl, and who better to help her out than real life superheroes!
Along with the guests, there will be a Battle of the Bands, that con members can take part in. It’s the finals, so you will be able to hear some amazing local talent perform while you rock out with your friends. Many artists will also be providing exclusive works that you can only get at the convention, including comic book artist Shelby Robertson of American Dischord, who will be there with his wife, and cosplayer Rosanna Robertson.
Tickets are $25 for the whole event ($15 each day) for adults and $10 ($5 each day) for kids 6-12 years old.
Police, Active Military, and Fire Fighters do not have to pay to get in.
