Day One Recap of E3 Expo 2014

e3-future

June 9 2014 marks the first day of the annual E3 Conference. For those who are new to the world of video games, E3 is the biggest video game show of the year. Developers from all over come to show off new games that will be on the market, and new things to expect. Though we are only on the first day of E3, we already have had the pleasure of seeing some amazing previews of games to come. These are just some hi-lights of some of the amazing news that has come out already!

Today, we had four conferences to look at, so, I will give you a brief summary of the hi-lights of the Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony Conferences. So, grab some popcorn and a controller, 2014-2015 is looking to be epic.

Microsoft:

E3 started with the Microsoft conference, something many were curious and looking forward to after last years debacle. Microsoft wanted to pull out the big guns fast, and, they gave us a short little trailer of Halo 5. You know, just the little thing of Master Chief riding a space bomb into some kind of craft. You know, the little things he probably deals with on a normal basis. Along with the announcement of the new game, Microsoft also gave us the Master Chief Collection, a collection that will come out containing most of the Halo series in one convenient set. We got another demo, Fable Legends, which focused most on four playable characters, and, the inclusion of a new villain role. For those of us who like to play on the darker side of things. Though it was more than probable, we did get to see a short trailer for the new Tomb Raider game, entitled, Rise of the Tomb Raider. After the events of the first game in the rebooted series, we see Lara having to deal with the events from the previous entry. We also see how she is getting closer and closer to the iconic character we all know. The last thing in the Microsoft conference I want to talk about is Crackdown. It looks like we will be seeing a reboot of the Crackdown games. Some what of a cult classic, you play as super powered cops patrolling a futuristic city and bringing the justice down on the bad guys.

EA Games:

Moving to the next conference, EA Games. First off, let’s talk about Dragon Age Inquisition, in my opinion, the most important part. Getting to see some old and new characters come back, and seeing how it is going to continue the story that left off in two. It’s gorgeous graphics and intriguing story really drew me in, and, I’m excited to see the final project. Though we didn’t get to see anything, we did get the green light that we are in fact getting a Mass Effect 4 and Star Wars Battlefront. Definitely something to look forward to, though, it would have been nice to see a bit of footage. We also will be getting another entry in the popular series, The Sims, with, The Sims 4. More interaction, more character design, more everything.

Ubisoft:

Ubisoft personally blew me away with two amazing demos and trailers. Let’s first start with the newest installment of Assassin’s Creed with Assassin’s Creed Unity. First, we got a game play demo. The new game takes place during the French Revolution, perhaps one of the most violent events in history. Taking advantage of the time period, Ubisoft shows us four assassins hunting down their target and throwing him to an angry mob in the middle of Paris. We got to see the smooth use of parkour, stealth killing, and beautiful graphics. More will come, and, it will be interesting to meet the new assassin, or assassins, and experience the new time period. Along with the new Assassin’s Creed game, we also get the treat of Far Cry 4. Unlike previous entries, Ubisoft is ditching the jungle environment for a more mountainous one in the Himalayas. They also promised the inclusion of ridable elephants, and yes, another amazing villain with a crazy laugh and horrible haircut.

Sony:

Lastly, let’s talk about the Sony Conference. For this one, we got some new games and some new equipment. First off, let’s talk about something we all knew was going to happen, but hey, still something to be excited about. As you probably expected, GTA 5 will be coming for the Playstation 4. But, now some new games, we are in fact getting a Mortal Kombat 10, and yes, you can expect gratuitous amounts of blood and carnage, just how you like them. New characters and old characters alike will make an appearance, along with new arenas to fight in. Uncharted 4 will also be coming out, a little trailer showing Nathan Drake looking a little older, and a bit beat up, while we hear some dialogue between Drake and Sully. Destiny will launch its beta first on Playstation 4, so, if you are really aching to try it out, the PS4 is getting the beta. Cult classic Tim Schaffer game, Grim Fandango, will be coming out for the PS Vita, along with more games for the handheld then we saw all of 2013-2014. Playstation TV has also been announced. Though some details are still in the air, we know it will ship for $99, but, an extra $30 will go to memory cards so…you know, at least the flat rate is good. And, I’m going to end this little review with the announcement of Little Big Planet 3. Different characters will have different abilities, strength, and speed, more creation of worlds, and more obstacles to make, we are all excited to see the return of the adorable Sackboy.
