First announced in February earlier this year, NieR:Automata has finally revealed its official TV anime premiere date to be January 2023.
The Yoko Taro-directed game has had many popular collaborations alongside other well-known games, such as Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV and its hit rhythm game THEATRHYTHM FINAL BAR LINE. But this is the first-ever solo project coming out of the Nier:Automata franchise since its 2017 sequel.
With assistance from the amazing producers at Aniplex, animation director Ryoji Matsuyama and game creator Yoko Taro have been working tirelessly to provide fans of the original game with a story they are both familiar with, as well as something new to be excited over. This is why the anime has received its designation: Ver. 1.1a.
Despite some confusion over whether the story would directly follow the game premise or not, Yoko Taro did reveal that a direct adaptation of the game wouldn’t quite work in the end. Thus, Ver. 1.1a was born – a version number that would differentiate the anime from the game itself and provide better clarity on the difference between the two entities.
NieR:Automata Ver. 1.1a is set to premiere in January 2023, with new character trailers releasing in sequential order from October.
