Get your duct tape and Swiss Army knife ready, because Richard Dean Anderson, who portrayed MacGyver in the popular TV series of the same name, is coming to Phoenix Comicon 2014! Anderson also starred in “Stargate SG-1,” a spinoff of the popular Stargate film from 1994. Below is the official press release for this most recent guest announcement:
Richard Dean Anderson to Join PHXCC 2014
Phoenix Comicon is proud to announce that actor Richard Dean Anderson will be attending Phoenix Comicon 2014.
“Phoenix Comicon is very happy to welcome Richard Dean Anderson to our 2014 Convention,”says Convention Director Matt Sorberg.
Richard Dean Anderson began his career on the American soap opera, General Hospital as Dr. Jeff Webber from 1976-1982. His next major role, as the character Angus MacGyver on the hit television series MacGyver (1985-1992) has been his most notable character,. MacGyver is famous for being able to solve practically any situation with a Swiss Army knife.
After MacGyver, Anderson then began a ten-year run as Jack O’Neill on the television series Stargate SG-1 (1997-2007). Since 1985, Anderson has been nominated for various awards—nine Saturn Awards (winning two), one Gemini Award, and two TV Land Awards.
Anderson has since reprized the role of his MacGyver character in commercials for Saturday Night Live, Pepsi and MasterCard, the later of which aired during Super Bowl XL. Most recently, Anderson joined the cast of Fairly Legal on USA Network in Fall 2010 in the recurring role of David Smith.
Phoenix Comicon is the signature pop culture experience of the southwest. Comicon is presenting guests and programming for hobbyists by attracting the top segments of the comics, anime, sci-fi, film, tv, and gaming industries. Entering its twelfth year, Phoenix Comicon is expected to draw over 65,000 attendees to its June 5-8, 2014 convention held at the Phoenix Convention Center and Hyatt Regency in Downtown Phoenix.
