What started out as an Indiegogo campaign to hopefully fund Rooster Teeth’s first feature film quickly became one of the most successful crowd funding campaigns. Lazer Team raised over 2.4 million dollars in just one month becoming the largest funded film in Indiegogo history.
Lazer Team follows the story of two past their prime, ex high school football teammates; a now cop named Hagan (Burnie Burns) and a tax evading drunk named Herman (Colton Dunn). Alongside them is the current high school football stud, Zach (Michael Jones) and Herman’s idiot friend Woody (Gavin Free) who manages to shoot down a UFO. Little did they know, this spacecraft was on a secret mission from friendly neighboring aliens delivering a special suit to the government. This suit was to be one by a single warrior to fight in battle against an evil alien coming to destroy mankind.
Of course being the fools they are, each of them straps on a piece of the suit forever attaching it to them. Because of this unfortunate turn of events, the four men are forced by the government to band together in hopes to save the world.
If you love Rooster Teeth, then you will love this movie. The writing is very Rooster Teeth with the witty one-liners with moments of seriousness in between all the laughter and action, not to mention the cinematography is beautiful. The film provides a multitude of cameos of RT employees and inside company references. Additionally, there are appearances by other YouTubers, internet jokes and pokes fun at other nerdy humor.
It is easy to the inspiration of super hero, sci-fi, and comic media from the 80’s and 90’s in this movie. If you love Ghostbusters, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Transformers and the multitude of great movies and shows, you’ll love the action packed humorous fun that is Lazer Team.
