As we all know, time flies when you’re playing your favorite video games. But, did you know it’s already been almost two years since our beloved Overwatch was first released?! That’s right. The two-year anniversary of Overwatch is coming up and Blizzard has already taken to the streets to announce their “Overwatch Anniversary” special, which will run from May 22 to June 11. Much like last years event, the Overwatch Anniversary will come with some very special surprises, including an all-new Deathmatch map called Petra! Blizzard hasn’t given away much information about how this map will look, but we can tell you that Competitive Play mode will be available for this Deathmatch map, which is something many players were hoping for. Along with this new map, we can expect to see the unveiling of 11 new skins – three epic and eight legendary – one of which will be the already leaked “Pirate Junkrat.” Dance emotes for Doomfist, Moira and Brigitte will also become available during the anniversary event. Not only that, but Blizzard is set to include all new “Legendary Anniversary Loot Boxes” that will guarantee a legendary skin upon opening. You can get one of these Loot Boxes automatically upon logging in, and another will be unlocked with the purchase of the 50 Loot Box Bundle.
Speaking of Legendary, Blizzard has also announced the arrival of the Overwatch “Legendary Edition” that will launch for digital purchase on May 22 as part of the anniversary. Included with the purchase of this edition is 15 legendary, epic and origin skins – which ones specifically has not been announced yet. We also have yet to find out how much the “Legendary Edition” will cost, but if it’s anything like the “Game of the Year” edition from last year’s anniversary, we can expect somewhere around $60 (USD).
However, if you’re just an Overwatch fan who has yet to actually purchase the game, then do we have news for you. Blizzard is giving gamers everywhere another “Free Weekend” event which is set to run May 25 through May 28, during the Overwatch Anniversary! This means that those of you who don’t have Overwatch but want to experience the special event with everyone else, you can log-in to your Xbox One, PS4 or PC and download the game for free during that weekend. Should you want to purchase the game after the free event is over, all of your progress will be transferred (so long as your log-in credentials remain the same). A special note for PlayStation 4 players – you can play during “Free Weekend” without needing PS Plus; however, you will need to purchase PS Plus should you decide to buy the game once the free event is over. Trust me, though, it’s more than worth it.
So, what are you waiting for? Mark your calendars and get ready for the anniversary event of the year!
