In a world where superheroes are a dime a dozen… one group stands out among the rest… because they’re totally, hilariously immature. Teen Titans GO! to the Movies is a fun and much-needed escapade within the DC universe of characters. Starring the titular characters from the popular Teen Titans GO! cartoon series, this movie keeps it light and sassy with self-referential humor and a ton of fourth wall breaking.

The movie focuses on Robin and the gang (Starfire, Raven, Cyborg and Beast Boy) as they desperately try to have a movie made about them. But when their regular antics don’t work, and even time manipulation doesn’t work, Robin concludes that the only way to have a movie made about him is to get an arch nemesis. Enter Slade, the villain who is mistaken for Deadpool throughout the film. While the Titans are busy trying to break into Hollywood, Slade is piecing together his diabolical plan that no superhero can stop.

Slade is voiced by the talented Will Arnett, who also produced along with some incredible alumni of superhero animation. His dry sense of humor shines as the villain who consistently outmatches the Titans with his own immature tricks. The voice cast of the cartoon series reprises their roles in the film, and with witty humor mixed with catchy musical numbers, they keep the audience chuckling even after the punchlines land.

The one major detriment to this film is the plot itself. During the first act it feels like there’s very little time between songs, and at times the jokes overpower the actual story. It takes a while for the plot of the film to get on track, but once it does it’s right on course. There are some great voice cameos that show up out of nowhere but serve as hilarious jabs at DC and the superhero universe as a whole. It also doesn’t hurt that Michael Bolton comes in with his power vocals, and Nicholas Cage finally gets to be Superman.

Teen Titans GO! to the Movies is a fun and hilarious spoof for those who enjoy the superhero genre, and for fans of the show. The characters feel authentic in their motives and the comedy just keeps coming up until the very end. One last thing to mention is that those who are fans of the original Teen Titans show need to stay for the mid-credit scene as a major spoiler is revealed.
