Comic Con hang overs are the worst……
I still have to read last week’s books ON-TOP of all the trades and Hardcover I picked up at San Diego Comic Con this past weekend. This year was the first time I was able to go to SDCC and I had an amazing time. I was able to meet/talk to a lot of creators and even get some inside scoop. Also I will be posting photos of stuff I bought at SDCC on my Twitter/Instagram @dweebofthedead so make sure and check that out.
Nonetheless here is a list of books that should be on your radar:
OH AND The Dark Knight Rises comes out this week!
1. Saga #5
-Brain K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples killing it in this book. Staples’ has been crafting such an amazing universe that really lets BKV’s writing shine. We will finally get a look at who is Prince Robot IV and why he is hunting lil Hazel. This book must be read in single issue format, so don’t wait for the trades!
2. Wonder Woman #11
-I have heard nothing but good things coming out of Brain Azzarello WW series and this issue marks a new story arc, Apollo makes his play for Zeus’ throne. New story arcs usually means new reader friendly so expect this Amazon to kick some major ass.
3. Mars Attacks #2
-ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK, ACK **translation= can’t go wrong with a John Layman book**
4. Avengers Vs. X-Men #8
-The second act in this book has really been the uplift this book needed. Maybe it’s due to Olivier Coipel taking over art duties from Romita Jr. But sometimes good things don’t last long, as Adam Kubert will step in now for the art work. But we welcome back writer Brain Michael Benis for this issue! Pretty much at this point I am waiting it out till the MARVEL NOW! relaunch event.
5. Nightwing #11
-Nightwing faces off PARAGON which is the leader of an anti-Gotham city group. I think this series has been under the radar, if you haven’t been reading this, catch up now!
6. Justice League #11
-I might stand alone on this but I have been really enjoying this series. Everything from Darkseid to Graves has really been stellar. There are rumors that Jim Lee might step down on art and have someone else fill in full time. Anyways enjoy what you can from Jim Lee since he might now be back for a while.
7. Daredevil #15
-Mark Waid cleaned up at the Eisner Awards this year at SDCC: Best Single Issue (or One-Shot), Best Continuing Series, and Best Writer. With all that said, this book is a must for any comic book reader.
8. Fantasic Four #608
-Jonathan Hickman will sadly be leaving FF soon and will jump onto Avengers books starting with Marvel relaunch event. So I highly recommend picking this up and enjoying the last of Hickmans run!
9. Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #2
-Is it weird that this is the only book I have been enjoying thus far? Amanda Connors art and Darwyn Cook writing really makes this a good read.
10. Captain Marvel #1
-Kelly Sue DeConnick is a bad ass writer. Carol Danvers has a new name and a new mission. If you don’t know who Carol Danvers is, now might be a perfect chance to see what all the hype is all about. Guest starring in this issue as well is Captain America. One thing that excites me the most is the art work, Dexter Soy is the man behind the pencil.
