The 38th Annual Phoenix Area Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention with an Emphasis on Art
April 6-8, 2012
Tempe Mission Palms,
60 East Fifth Street, Mesa, AZ
The 38th annual LepreCon Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention is being held April 6-8, 2012 at the Tempe Mission Palms in Tempe, Arizona. We will be taking over the hotel for the weekend with hundreds of science fiction and fantasy fans getting together for the event in a relaxed, intimate
atmosphere where they can hang out and chat with the guests and other fans.
LepreCon 38 is sponsored by Leprecon, Inc. an Arizona non-profit corporation. We’re putting on a fun event for science fiction and fantasy fans to get together for the weekend. The convention is run by volunteers who have been putting in lots of time and energy over the last several months to make sure the convention happens. Any help you can give us to let people know about our event would be very much appreciated.
This year’s LepreCon has a terrific lineup of guests. Our Special Media Guest is Stephen Furst, who
is best known for playing Flounder in National Lampoon’s Animal House, Vir Cotto on Babylon 5, and Dr. Axelrod on St. Elsewhere. We’ll also be hosting a special screening of Animal House with Stephen at the Madcap Theaters in downtown Tempe on Friday April 6th (details are in separate release). Our Artist Guest of Honor is Franchesco!, whose comic art can be seen on recent issues of Grimm Fairy Tales and in the online Axe Anarchy graphic novel, Our Author Guest of Honor Joe Haldeman is a multiple award winning (Hugo Awards, Nebula Awards) author. Our Music Guests are Jeff and Maya Bohnhoff, Local Artist Guest is bodypainter Mark Greenawalt, and Gaming Guest is Todd VanHooser.
Many other local authors and artists will be on hand participating in programming including Bram Stoker award winning author Weston Ochse. Please check our website for a full list. We will also have an art show filled with hundreds of pieces of artwork in the Science Fiction, Fantasy, Anime and Horror genres available to purchase, an exhibitor’s room with books, jewelry, & sci-fi memorabilia, an expanded Gaming area (with role playing games, collectible card games and more). We’ll have special panels with our guests throughout the weekend. Please note if you can that our Dealers Room and Art Show are free to visit and do not require memberships. We are also offering discounted rates for students and for those who are at the convention just to take part in the gaming area.
Special events include a charity auction to benefit The Renal Support Network in honor of Stephen Furst, a Toga Party on Saturday night sponsored by The Dark Ones, and LepreCon will be taking part in a worldwide virtual event to announce the nominees for the Hugo Awards that will be awarded at WorldCon in Chicago later this year.
LepreCon was awarded Best SciFi Convention by the Phoenix New Times in their 2010 Best of Phoenix edition.
