The day has finally come for us to see what lies in the past of Gotham City, what came before Batman: Arkham Asylum. It’s finally time for us to see what lies inside Batman Arkham Origins in today’s new trailer:

Today’s new non-gameplay trailer that is. Oh well, par for the course with Arkham games to see the beauty of the cutscenes long before actual gameplay. It’s a bit on the obnoxious side to go that route, but when the game looks this beautiful, it’s to be expected. For such a short trailer, we’re given a surprising amount of information on what we maybe should expect.
Based on the trailer, we know for sure that Deathstroke, Deadshot and Black Mask will be primary antagonists to the Dark Knight during this adventure. We’re also given our first look at a hierarchy among the villains with Black Mask chastising Deathstroke, after he spoke out in frustration about another assassin trying to steal his kill. One can only wonder who else might be out to stop the Batman during this long winter night. At least it looks like we may have an Arkham game with little to no Joker in the mix. Don’t get me wrong, I love Mr. J with all my heart, but changing things up will be good for the franchise in the long run.
What I did notice however, was a throwaway Queen Industries logo, which makes me hope beyond hope that The Emerald Archer will be making some sort of appearance in-game. Maybe something along the lines of Robins appearances throughout Arkham City. Hey, I’ll take whatever I can get to satiate my lusting for more Green Arrow action in gaming. (Read: Any real Green Arrow action in gaming.)
Finally, it looks like we’re also getting our first looking at pre-order bonuses for the game, with Deathstroke apparently being playable in Arkham Origins. Now, ignoring how infuriating some people may find it to see the game’s first trailer plastered with a pre-order bonus/DLC, let’s take a moment to look at this from the positive side of things. Deathstroke, the master assassin out of DC Comics is going to be playable in an Arkham game. Do you realize how awesome that sounds? If they give us a Catwoman styled mini-story during key points in the Origins storyline, then I’m sold!
Batman Arkham Origins is releasing worldwide on October 25th, 2013 for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, PSVita, and probably your nearest refrigerator.
