On Sunday night, American Idol’s annual Disney Night episode featured a special guest appearance from Princess Ariel herself! Halle Bailey, the star of Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, graced the Idol stage to perform the iconic ballad “Part of Your World.”
The rest of the film’s cast boasts big names such as Javier Bardem, Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Jonah Hauer-King, and Melissa McCarthy. The Little Mermaid is the latest in a long line of classic Disney animated films to receive live-action adaptations, with 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King being just a few examples.
Fans can look forward to several more live-action remakes, including Snow White in 2024 with Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot and Hercules, Lilo & Stitch, Moana, and more.

While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, which gives her a chance to experience life on land but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
