Who doesn’t love a zombie adventure? With all the zombie fanfare going on lately, from the popular show Walking Dead to comedies like Zombieland, to horror flicks like the Resident Evil series, it seems that zombies are everywhere in the geek culture.
And now it’s coming to the table top world! DeadQuest is the tabletop gem created by John Chakravarty and Charles Byram, who took a leap of faith and decided to pursue their dream of creating a tabletop game revolving around a zombie apocalypse. As of right now, it’s currently looking for sponsors via Kickstarter, and they have plenty of sweet incentives for those who are interested in helping them reach their goal.
As for how the game looks, I’d have to say I would love to give it a try once it comes out. According to the website and Kickstarter, the game takes place in the American Southwest, after a horrible outbreak caused by a drug that was released to the masses through every means possible. The drug, sent to pacify the masses after another drug was used up, ends up killing 79% of the population, reducing it to nothing but mindless zombies. The world changed overnight, and there appears to be several different kinds of zombies, depending on the environment they had risen from. A very small percentage of the remaining population actually reacts positively to the drugs, and gain almost superhuman abilities. These people are considered to be heroes by the remaining human population, and go on many great adventures to gain renown and fame. There are several factions you can choose to belong to at the beginning of the game, each one offering different ways of playing, depending on how you want your character to turn out. The dice system is going to be fairly straightforward, especially if you’re already familiar with Dungeons and Dragons, or other tabletop systems like it. The creators have done a fantastic job of streamlining it all to make playing the game simple and enjoyable.
So far it seems like a very enjoyable game, and I can’t wait to check it out upon its release! If you’d like to find out more about the game aside from just this brief review, which I highly recommend you do, you can visit both their website www.DeadQuest.com, or their Kickstarter page here! Or even better, you could speak to John and Charles personally, while they are attending the Amazing Arizona Comicon this Saturday to promote DeadQuest! They’ll have all kinds of goodies to give away, so I highly recommend stopping by to see these guys if you have plans to attend!
I’ll be sure to keep you all updated on this game as I will be playing it when it comes out – it really sounds like a fantastic one, so keep your eyes peeled!
