“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” Review

“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” is fresh, fun, and fantastic! “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” opens this week and was written and directed by Stephen Chbosky. The movie stars Logan Lerman as Charlie, Emma Watson as Sam, and break out star Ezra Miller as Patrick.

This isn’t your typical “all about high school” movie. The movie follows the story of one young man during his freshman year in high school and the people he meets and those who make a profound difference in his life. This movie has so many layers. Everyone who finds their way to the front of the line at this movie will find a character they can relate to. I work with high school students every day. I see the students as they try to fit in with the crowd, or try to hide in their own shadow. This movie reminds me that most students just want to be noticed. With their lives ahead of them, they are all trying to find their place. The musicians, poets, football players, cheerleaders, artists, future military, geeks, everyone has a future. If you work with young adults, take time out of your busy schedule, smile, reminding them how important they are. Take a minute to ask about their college choices, their family, and their interests. You might be the one person in their lives who truly makes a difference.

My rating for “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”:

9 of 10 Corsages!

Geek? Nerd? Rock Star Mom? I’m not really sure which title fits me best. I’m an artist and poet. I have two blogs. I don’t read comic books. I have a good eye for composition. I know some artists that will be famous one day. My oldest son (Big Chris) is an amazing artist! My youngest son is a Punk Rock Star (Jeremy Wood, bassist for Authority Zero). I am very social and I like to interview cool people, so I write a few stories for GNN. Who wouldn’t want to be included with such a cool/geeky/nerdy group of people, right? Judy Wood, poet, artist, writer for GNN.
