Cosplay Beauty Tips

As we head into Con season preparing our one of a kind cosplay costumes, looking for impossibly amazing shoes that could never be comfortable and trying to find ways to store our swag and purchases into character specific bags there are a few things that can be overlooked.

Here are a few of my tips for getting through Cons so you can still look and feel like an anime character and not some decrepit troll.

babypowderBaby Powder:
This is my go to for my general beauty routine, but here is how you can use it:

  • Oily hair: This will happen from time-to-time, where you are getting sweaty and your hair starts to look less than perfect. Baby powered acts as great dry shampoo that can be easily sprinkled into your hair in the bathroom, just make sure to work it in so you don’t get a gray look.
  • Contain your makeup: Most ladies use a makeup powder to get rid of a shiny face and keep their makeup on their face. After applying your makeup (costume or natural) with a blush brush, sprinkle some into the palm of your hand and dab the brush into the powder and brush it over your makeup.
  • For those sticky spots: I know for me I get sweaty and sticky under my boobs and between my upper thighs. Baby powder will help with preventing sweating and sticking and make your walking con life so much more comfortable.

Oily Face:
This happens to us all and sometimes we don’t have baby powder handy. This trick is pretty simple (and free). While in the bathroom, take one of those unused toilet seat covers and rip it into small pieces. Then with the help of a mirror, dab your oily face spots with your torn pieces.

vaselineVaseline:
Now I am normally I try to stay chemical free when it comes to makeup removal, but costume makeup can be so much trickier. With some hot water, wash cloth and tub of Vaseline, whip as much of your makeup off as you can. Then apply Vaseline to your eyes and face then wipe off with a hot water wash cloth. Follow up your Vaseline whip down with your normal wash wash routine and make sure to moisturize.

ExfoliateExfoliate:
Now, Cons are GREAT for art, cosplay and a lot of geeking out over celebs, but there is one big flaw: nerd funk. It is a smell in the air that we have grown accustomed to but is really bad for your skin. All those germs, air particles and just gunky air just sits on your skin, not to mention all your own sweating and makeup that just needs to be scrubbed off.

Exfoliating is important for any girl, but especially after a few days of Con-ing. Here is a great home remedy I created:

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • ¼ cup of sugar
  • â…“ lemon juice
  • 2 tbs of honey
  • dash of salt

Remove your makeup, but don’t wash your face. Mix it together and use it in the shower everywhere you can reach, including your face. Rinse off, the wash as normal.
